SupaValue Stores Comes To The Aid of Tournament

SVS, a popular retailer and wholesaler store has come to the aid of the Southern Regional Rugby League 9s Tournament by donating each to the 44 participating teams, a 10kg bag of rice, Popmie cup noodles box, stock cube and indomilk beverage to assist in the week-long food rationing in their respective camps. The donations were delivered on the 8th of December, 2024, at the Sir Hubert Murray Stadium, the tournament venue.

Marketing Manager for SVS, Mr. Patrick Avinanto with is dedicated staff were at the tournament venue to present the donated goods to the teams (as pictured above). He was pleased to know that such a tournament exists to help in the youth welfare and awareness drive particularly in curbing drug abuse and ill-discipline by engaging them in sports.

“We are committed to supporting the tournament for what it stands for. Creating an avenue to take the minds of village and city youths away from drug and alcohol abuse helps in conducting business and because this increases participation in a more healthy activity, we have come in to support in a small way but we believe, it is a significant step towards strengthening our youths”, Mr. Avinanto said.

Tournament Director and Founder of SportzEvents Limited, Mr. Ivan Ravu was on hand to respond Mr. Avinanto where he expressed immense gratitude towards the kind corporate gesture. “We have long been keen to involve SVS to be our partners in progressing our youths through community sports such as this one and we believe the continued support goes a long way. I also believe the youths and parents of the players will recognise such a donation and will front up to their (SVS) store to buy their goods and so this makes it work both ways”.

One of the tournament players, Emmanuel Herea, was present to receive the food items and he expressed that even his team spent a lot of money to source quality food supplies to assist the players in camp and most times, the players and team officials would send for vegetables from the village to help the team’s effort. “Our aim is to win but it comes at a price, we have to be prepared to provide all the items we need to sustain our team camp during the tournament. Previous years had us move from our own family homes to the game venues to play but that has changed and having enough food supply to sustain us makes a difference in our team’s performance. This is the same with most teams in the village who may not be able to afford the items that have been donated to us today and we are very thankful, on behalf of all the participating teams…Thank You SVS!”.

The tournament enters into day three tomorrow (10/12/2024) and a nail-biting time is upon teams that are sitting on the cut mark which may see some regular faces face elimination.
