AG SANSO ROYALS TAKE OUT MINOR PREMIERSHIP

The Port Moresby Rugby League 2024 minor premiers are officially confirmed as AG Energy Sanso Royals in the A grade & Under 20 Divisions while the Women’s Division sees Hohola Flies in what is described as mixed year for them. Royals are sure to take the club of the competition award in the Dr. James Naipao chaired competition. Mr. John Ambane, the operations manager told SportzPlus Media how appreciative he was of the weekend as it culminated a season-long competition that faced many difficulties but has shaved through and being left somewhat unscathed by the ongoing in-house matters. He says that the Royals are deserved of the minor premiership title being that they have been well-mannered throughout the challenging season and seem to be on track to take the main trophy too.

The Junior Yambe-coached Royals are on top with 24 points with 11 wins, 2 draws and 2 losses at the end of 15 rounds of competition matches. Last weekend they defeated the Butterflies 16 – 0 to claim the minor title. Last year’s minor premiers, Kone Storm team were beaten by a more disciplined Kone Tigers outfit 12 – 4 but they still hold second spot on the ladder on 21 points.

A much-improved Magani side is third on the points ladder and share same points with Hanuabada Hawks on 20 points apiece but points differential separates the two. Dobo Warriors on 16points takes 5th place while Paga Panthers 15 is on 6th. Following suit are Kone Tigers 14 points (7th place), Bige Gulf West 13 points (8th place), Hohola Flies 13 points (9th place), Tarangau 13 points (10th place), Butterflies 9 points (11th place) and luckless Kawaso Defence taking the wooden spoon and sitting at 12th place.

In the Women’s category the Flies who are outright leaders with 27 points, picked up 13 wins, one draw and lost one after round 15.

Dobo Warriors after an enthralling win over Bige Gulf West (6 – 4) moved up to the second spot which was made possible also after the Hawks girls were humbled by the Flies 20 – 14.

In descending order, the Flies 27 points (1st), Warriors on 23 points (2nd place), Hawks 23 points (3rd place) by points differential, Defence 20 points (4th place), Paga Panthers 19 points (5th place), Tarangau 18 points (6th place), Kone Storms 17 points (7th place), Kone Tigers 14 points (8th place), Gulf West 8 points (9th place), Royals 6 points (10th place), Butterflies (11th place) and Magani (12th place) did not register wins in this grueling competition.
